Summary of Progress #9

Be sure to check out our Social Media

Hello there! The following series is a kind of journal of our adventure with game development. If you want to take part in it and find out what exactly we do to move our titles towards their premiers, check back regularly! Cheers!

GIMLE: THE BROKEN PROPHECY

We hope your last two weeks were as great as ours! We have fourteen really busy days behind us, but the results of our work reward the efforts 😁 What are these results? Well, this is what we want to tell you about in the ninth part of the Summary of Progress down below! Once again, our projects – Gimle: The Broken Prophecy and Builders of Greece – were enriched with numerous mechanics, features, improvements, and new content. All right, let’s take a look, shall we?
Shaping the combo and attack sequence system

As for Gimle: The Broken Prophecy, we’ve done a lot of programming and design work. You can see an example below – the graph shows some of the possible combinations and sequences of attacks that the player’s character will be able to perform. These attacks and combos will take into account various variables (e.g. stunned opponent, weapon type used etc.) so that they look and feel like a smooth, authentic fight. We bear in mind that every RPG games fan knows that combined attacks are a very important element of the combat system and (when well-designed) give a lot of satisfaction and fun. We make every effort to ensure that it is so in Gimle.

OUR WORK ON looting and ARMOR changing mechanics

In addition to developing the combat mechanics, we also worked on the armor changing system and looting enemies and containers mechanics. From now on, you can defeat your opponent and grab a well-deserved bounty! 💰 Needless to say, looting enemies, chests, or vaults is an extremely rewarding moment of the RPG adventure, so we made sure that this feature would work flawlessly. If you happen to get your hands on an armor piece, you will now be able to wear it, as our developers have implemented a mechanics of using armor items. Apart from the fact that the armored character looks simply amazing, helmets, breastplates, gloves, and other items of the sort will provide you with good protection against the weapons and projectiles of your foes… But will it save you from Grímur?

Grímur
BEWARE OF Grímur!

Grímurs are watchful guardians of the dead. If you do not want to disturb their peace, this mysterious being won’t bother or attack you… but if you want to reach for treasures hidden in tombs, temples, or cemeteries, be careful! Grímur’s fangs will quickly find their way to your throat  ☠️  It is said that these shadowy beasts keep the undead from leaving their graves by keeping the memory of them alive. Their presence can bring feelings of sadness or even cause nightmares to the entire neighborhood – this is how Grímurs remind local folks of a forgotten dead requiring their attention… sadly, only a few people are aware of this. We think our artists have perfectly captured the dark beauty of this unique creature!

Builders of Greece

We are currently devoting a great deal of our attention to further improvements to the graphics. Valleys, forests, coasts, and of course cities that we polish with every passing day look much more authentic and prettier than ever before!  😁  We can’t wait to present them to the world and learn what you think about them! Anyway, in addition to visual improvements, we also designed some cool buildings that you can see at the end of this post. We are very pleased with the progress made on this project, and we are happy to tell you all about it – especially as we will soon announce some exciting news…

Further visual improvements and testing larger in-game areas

All right, let’s get down to business. Our graphic designers reached the heights of their skills and implemented some really important improvements to the in-game environment. First of all, they took care of the grass that covers vast areas of the map where you can expand your city-state. The grass has been enriched with many details, changes in colors, and texture, which make it more realistic and pleasing to the eye 🌳 Where the grass is, there are trees – they also got a good amount of embellishments and fixes. The greenery in your kingdom will surely make you delighted! The icing on the cake are changes in the water “system”. Now the sea has taken on new colors and behaves more authentically.

While the artists dealt with in-game world improvements, our IT team tested different sizes of playable maps. We generated larger, more extensive areas for more demanding rulers. Now they can expand as far as the eye can see – we can’t wait to see how big settlements can you build!

Necropolis and Shipyard - now available to build in your magnificent CITY

All good things come to an end. Even life in such a great Polis as yours – and your loyal subjects know it too! Therefore, one of their requirements will be access to a place where they can send their loved ones to the other side. Necropolis fulfills this role perfectly! By burying the deceased in this dedicated place, you will reduce the risk of disease outbreaks and increase the overall hygiene in your city. How convenient!

The second building is the Shipyard. As your city grows, you will soon discover that you need to open up to the wide world. And is there a better way to trade, fight, and expand than having your very own fleet? With the help of the Shipyard, your coast will be filled with all kinds of ships that will serve your cause. Command them wisely, and your people will appreciate the new types of commodities in the markets, profitable political deals, and the spoils of war you’ve earned!
