Welcome to a brand-new series in which we will tell you all about the buildings you will have at your disposal as a ruler of an ancient Greek Polis.

At first glance, the buildings we are discussing today belong to the category of food producers… and that is, in a way, true. However, they are definitely more than that! 🍗 You will soon find out that the presence of a Hunting Lodge and Olive Press is essential not only to feed your loyal subjects, but also to guarantee them access to slightly more luxurious goods and to ensure their overall well-being. How so?

Hunting Lodge

Hunting wild animals is one of the oldest ways of obtaining food in the world. 🏹 The ancient Greeks knew this very well, so they often went on hunting trips in search of deer, rabbits, boars, and other wildlife that could replenish their reserves of fresh meat. With the use of bows and javelins, they tried to provide their kin with a warm, nutritious meal.

You too can rely on the skills of your hunters and build their modest outpost – a Hunting Lodge. Be sure to place it near the forest… for obvious reason. The meat they will provide to your Polis may prove to be a very important element of the welfare of your subjects. Remember that a varied diet consisting of different types of food has a positive effect on the morale of your citizens. When meat doesn’t show up in their pantries often enough, their attitude towards you may deteriorate! Remember – a hungry citizen is a querulous citizen! 😣

Luckily, the Hunting Lodge is a rather simple and cheap building. Moreover, you will be able to build it right away, just after starting the game, so feel free to stockpile meat from the very beginning of your reign. You will need up to three employees to make sure your Hunting Lodge is working efficiently.

Olive Press

Olive groves are undoubtedly one of the symbols of Ancient Greece – we can all picture sun-drenched slopes filled with tiny, green trees full of juicy olives, right? However, olives alone are sometimes not enough. To get your hands on valuable olive oil, you will need… an Olive Press!

The Olive Press is a slightly larger and more advanced building than the Hunting Lodge, so naturally it’s a bit more expensive to build and maintain. However, this should not put you off! The Olive Press is essential for the operation of many other buildings in your city, which we’ll talk more about in a moment. ⚖️

First, let’s check how does the Olive Press work. Well, the mechanism behind it is quite simple, yet very reliable. The olives delivered from the olive groves are crushed with a huge press, and the resulting oil is collected to be used in further production. You will need three employees to operate the press.

As mentioned, many crucial workshops cannot do without Olive Oil, and its shortcomings may turn out to be very problematic! Lampmaker’s hut, Tiganites bakery, Cosmetic, and Pharmacist workshops – all of these buildings are dependent on the efficient work of the Olive Press. Olive oil products are usually in great demand and can turn out to be an excellent way to multiply your wealth through trade! 💰

In the following parts of the series, we will return to you with a description of many other structures that will ensure the security, well-being and development of your city. Stay tuned!
