The truth about Trolls...
All the inhabitants of Gimle who have had the dubious pleasure of meeting the Troll agree, that they are not the smartest and brightest creatures they have seen. That’s true, they may be dull, which can be used right against them, but despite that you should never underestimate them! Suffice it to say that getting hit by their clawed hand can simply tear you apart and put your glorious adventurer career to an end. To make things worse, Trolls can throw boulders and use makeshift weapons, such as tree limbs. Its sweeping blows can literally throw an opponent into the air and shatter his bones.
Trolls are predatory, omnivorous giants that inhabit almost every possible environment – frosty peaks, dense forests, misty swamps, or even windy plains. Depending on their place of existence, they may differ in the skin tones, the thickness of their coat, and the size of their tusks. Their diet is mainly a combination of meat (watch out, they will not despise human flesh! 😱) and mushrooms.
Trolls are forced to lead a nocturnal lifestyle because sunlight turns them to stone. Therefore, their eyes adapted to see in the dark. They sleep from morning to dusk in their caves or abandoned huts, safe from blinding rays of the sun. Trolls are usually wild and almost mindless, but surprisingly enough, there are individuals who can… talk! Most of the time, however, their level of eloquence reaches the illiterate and simply stupid peasant. Their style of speaking is based on repeating a few words over and over again. Such individuals are usually very, very old and had met people on several occasions.
Appearance
Trolls weigh from six hundred to twelve hundred kilograms and are over three meters tall, despite that they always walk hunched over. If that’s not enough, you can recognize them by their large noses, as well as characteristic moss and fur covering their bodies. They have relatively short legs and strong, long arms. Most often they are quite dense, stout, and greasy, some rare individuals have horns.
Trolls are famous for their very hard and thick skin. Their color most often combines various shades of green and brown, but as mentioned above, depending on where they occur, Trolls may significantly differ in their appearance. An example is the Ice Troll (called Timir), which is almost completely white. Trolls are skilled at using their huge, sharp claws – their hands are disproportionately large, which makes them an excellent survival tool and a deadly weapon ☠️ Witnesses say that Trolls can crush a human warrior with a single, powerful blow as easy as one draws a breath.
How to fight them?
When your path leads you to the Troll’s cave, consider taking a different way. Trolls, being much larger and stronger than humans, pose a deadly danger. In addition, it is crucial to remember about their amazing regenerative abilities – legend says that these resilient beasts can even regrow severed limbs! This means that only powerful, deep wounds will be able to hold them back. Be sure to take advantage of the fact that Trolls are rather slow. Before you rush into close combat, weaken the enemy by using a few spells or a ranged weapon. At the same time, bear in mind that some types of Trolls may be immune to certain elements, such as ice and fire!
The intellectual advantage is definitely on your side, so scan your surroundings and choose the best position that will slow the Troll down and give you some time to fire at it or think what to do next. The truth is that only the greatest warriors can defeat them in single combat, so make sure you are properly equipped and ready to fight these murderous giants. Most likely, heavy weapons that can deal high damage will work best here, although this is not a universal rule. Fame and glory await… at least for those who don’t end up as a bloody scrap just outside the Troll’s cave entrance
