Welcome to a brand-new series in which we will tell you all about the buildings you will have at your disposal as a ruler of an ancient Greek Polis.
Today we are going to cover the absolutely basic, water-related buildings, so you’d better get your raincoats ready!
Fisherman's Hut
The inhabitants of your polis have many needs, and perhaps the most important of them all is to satisfy their hunger. Fortunately, the Greek landscape is inherent with the sea… which is full of fish, squid, octopus, and other Poseidon’s gifts!
Built in the right place, Fisherman’s Hut will guarantee you a constant supply of this important resource. Fisherman’s Hut is cheap to build, self-sufficient, and relatively efficient, so don’t hesitate to invest in a few of these! If your warehouses are full of fish, you can exchange the surplus for other valuable resources by trading or storing them to use them later, when your city grows bigger.
Commoners will be happy to have fish on their table, but more distinguished and discerning citizens will also demand other types of food.
Noria
When talking about the essential buildings in your city, we cannot forget about the Noria. Thanks to the ingenuity of the architects, Noria automatically irrigates the fields and makes the work of farmers much easier. And it’s not just about strict food production – farmlands are also the source of many other valuable raw materials, such as grapes used in production of wine or olives used to make olive oil.
Every ruler knows the importance of the fertility of his lands and, consequently, rich harvests. If you don’t provide your fields with enough water, you can forget about them all. If placed in the right place, Noria will constantly irrigate the fields, providing them with optimal conditions for growing plants – be sure to keep it in mind while planning your farming zones!
In the following parts of the series, we will return to you with a description of many other structures that will ensure the security, well-being and development of your city. Stay tuned!
