It is only up to you whether your policy will be able to meet the requirements of each resident, from the poorest to the richest.

According to history, the population in the game will be divided not only according to their social status but also according to their needs. To be successful, you need to keep society happy. It is only up to you whether your policy will be able to meet the requirements of each resident, from the poorest to the richest.

Depending on their status and satisfaction, the population will be able to migrate between social strata so as to successfully build districts of various traits in the polis. Each apartment building, after meeting the relevant requirements, can be improved so that its inhabitants can transfer their social status to a higher level. Houses inhabited by each of the social classes are characterized by a unique style and represent their property status.

There are four basic social layers during the game:

• Thetes – They are the lowest class of society which is made up of a wide variety of members, mainly poor peasants, small craftsmen, and landless hired workers. The thetes were made up of citizens with property producing less than 200 medimnos* of grain a year.

• Zeugitai – The class to which the famous hoplites belonged. The representative of Zeugitai was wealthy enough to own a team of oxen. Their fortune did not exceed 300 medimnos of grain a year.

• Hippeis – Mostly known as Greek cavalry and the second most prosperous social group, initially consisting of those who could afford a horse and rider’s equipment. Later, the definition of hippeis as a social group broke away from the possibility of undertaking horse service in the army.

• Pentakosiomedimnoi – “Five-hundred-bushel men” refers to the richest people whose annual grain income exceeded 500 medimnos. Members of the social class also obtained the right to run for the office of the archon.

*A medimnos was an Ancient Greek unit of volume = 1 bushel = 8 dry gallons = around 52 liters.
Hierarchy is everything

Each resident of Polis, climbing up the hierarchy, changes his requirements and profession. The names of the social strata come from the historical division of Ancient Greece society and reflect the professional divisions.

Increasing the qualifications and social status not only allows the use of the new potential for new jobs and activities but will also be associated with greater citizen requirements. In our game, citizens when changing their social status also changes the building in which they live, the goods they need and the and the requirements they have towards the ruler. The sustainable development of your Polis is also important so that everyone is satisfied.

Meeting the demands of your people is a key part of keeping your inhabitants happy. Remember to always provide them with the appropriate goods, because the satisfaction of the inhabitants is the foundation of a prospering and united Polis. Thanks to the different tiers of society, the game reflects the complexity of the social structures of Ancient Greece.

In the Ancient Greek world, religion was personal, direct, and present in all areas of your citizens’ life, which makes it one of the most important element of their happiness. It is only up to you which gods will send grace to your polis and which will send their anger. A series of random events and consequences of the player’s actions cause the world of ancient Greek polis to be filled with the will of the Olympian Gods.

In the next episode, we will talk more about the religion in the game and the possibility of worshiping the gods of Olympus
