Any ruler who wants to go down in history πŸ“š should get acquainted with the “Ruler’s Manual” series! Why – you ask? Well, in the following entries we tell you about how to make your Polis wealthy, safe, and as prosperous as possible. And believe us, it’s not as easy as it may seem!

A few facts about the bellies of your subjects

Make no mistake, the subject of the abundance of your granaries and storehouses should not be taken lightly. In the past, many great empires collapsed due to crop failure, famine, and related riots or diseases πŸ’€ And it is no different with the city that you will manage! The empty bellies of your subjects mean trouble – that’s one of the golden rules that every wise ruler, like you, takes into account. On the other hand, well-fed, satisfied citizens will surely repay you with their hard work and obedience. You are about to learn how to achieve this favorable state of affairs and how to ensure that their tables are never empty!

Providing food for your citizens should be your priority from the very beginning of your reign. While they can do without comforts, access to luxuries, entertainment, or culture (at least for some time), hunger will quickly make them leave your city… or simply die. Since we do not want this to happen, today we will discuss how to wisely plan the production, transport, and distribution of edible goods πŸ– All right, it’s time to visit Farmlands, Vineyards, Olive Groves, Bakeries, Granaries, Fishermen’s huts, and Hunting lodges! As a ruler, you must make sure that their work is done quickly and efficiently.

Ways to feed the population

Fortunately, there are numerous different ways to produce or obtain food. Among the many buildings that you will have at your disposal as a ruler, you will soon find out that many of them are related to the production and storage of edible goods. The first two of them are the most primitive and closest to nature. Hunting Lodge and Fisherman’s Hut 🐟 may not be too advanced, but they perfectly serve their purpose of feeding your subjects from the very beginning of the game.

In the next stages, you will be able to use more advanced food producers such as Wheat, Cattle, or Goat Farm. Milk and wheat produced there can be later processed into other goods. Thanks to them, various types of bakeries or the Cheesemaker’s Hut can be built and operate in your city πŸ§€

In addition to the above-mentioned, you can also use the services of Winery, Olive Grove, Grapevine Plantation, Vinegar Distillery, Slaughterhouse, or Brewery, which also deal with the production of edible goods. However, there’s more – every good ruler should know the great potential of trade. Remember that in case of a shortage of food in your city, you can always buy it from your neighbors βš– Crisis averted!

The more varied the better

While the main purpose of food is to keep your subjects alive, it is also important when it comes to their well-being. Even the best, beloved dish will get boring if it is the only dish on our tables for a long time. With that in mind, remember that the more varied their diet is, the happier they are 😊 When expanding your city, make sure that it offers its inhabitants different types of meals. The rule is quite simple! If your granaries and warehouses are filled with a variety of edible goods, your subjects will repay you with loyalty and diligence! You know what they say – a well-fed citizen is a good citizen!

In the following parts of the series, we will return to you with descriptions of many other important mechanics and tips that will help you become the greatest ruler of all time! As always – stay tuned.
