Summary of Progress #12

Be sure to check out our Social Media

Hello there! The following series is a kind of journal of our adventure with game development. If you want to take part in it and find out what exactly we do to move our titles towards their premiers, check back regularly! Cheers!

GIMLE: THE BROKEN PROPHECY

Welcome to the next part of the Summary of Progress series! We are sure you will not be surprised when we say that the last few weeks have been very busy for us… and you know what? We loved it! 😁 Our entire team has made every effort to achieve their current goals and breathe even more life into our projects. Although we sometimes face unforeseen problems and bugs, we always manage to fall on our feet!

Okay, enough of this introduction. It’s time to get down to business. Let’s see how our games changed lately and what awaits us in the amazing world of ancient Greeks and gallant, brute Vikings!

Weather effects and their impact on the in-game world

Although the northern lands can sometimes enjoy sunny days, they are most often associated with cold, snow, and gloomy weather. It is not different in the world of Gimle. Snowfalls, storms, rains, and gusty winds are common phenomena here. Hard fate awaits those who cannot adapt to them… but no worries 🌨 during your epic journey you will have plenty of time to get used to the aura of this hostile realm.

This is exactly what our team has been working on recently – the weather effects, that will accompany you throughout the whole game. From now on, the main character, as well as the elements of the environment, buildings, or the ground on which you move, can be covered with snow, soaked with rain, or dried in the sun. We believe that authentic weather effects are a guarantee of deeper immersion – some of the locations, for example mountain peaks, simply must have different weather conditions than, let’s say, lowland forests 🌳 Thanks to the recent updates, we have managed to enrich and diversify playable zones even more, so get used to feeling the chill of the cold rain or the heat of the sun – you never know what awaits you next!

First iteration of the Trading Panel - it's just a prototype!
Continuation of coding work and changes to the very core of the game

Our programmers still have their hands full of work. They not only try to eliminate all bugs in sight, but also do their best to improve and modernize the core mechanics of the game. This is a completely normal stage of production of such a large, rich in various features project. Needless to say, it is quite a long, tedious, and fairly demanding job. We anticipate that it will last a few more weeks, so we won’t bore you with details. To give you an overview of the situation, we can reveal that we are working on such elements as movement, fight, trade, item using, architecture, saving progress, and UI systems.

Once this work is done, Gimle: The Broken Prophecy will enter a whole new state. However, let’s not get ahead of the facts. We still have many long hours of coding, tinkering in advanced tools, and troubleshooting ahead of us 🤓

Builders of Greece

There is so much going on in this project that we didn’t really know where to start. New ideas, solutions, features, and improvements appear nearly every day! Working on Builders of Greece gives us incredible joy and motivates us greatly… and we hope that our devlogs reflect those feelings!

There is still a lot of work ahead of us, but seeing the recent progress, we are sure that we are on the right track! We are also happy to see your increased activity on our Social Media channels and Discord server – it’s very heartwarming to watch our community of historical and city-builder games fans grow so dynamically 💕 As we earlier announced, we will share some important and very exciting news soon… but before that, let’s see what our work has looked like over the last two weeks.

Another unit awaits your orders! Meet brave Hypaspist!

In the last part of the Summary of Progress series, you had the opportunity to meet Psiloi – the most basic and simplest kind of soldier who will gladly fight for the glory of your empire. This time we want to show you a member of a little more experienced, better equipped, and more valiant formation. Meet – Hypaspist! ⚔

Initially, Hypaspists played the role of Hoplites’ squires and porters, but later on, they were transformed into an independent type of infantry. Their main equipment consisted of a three-meter long spear and a wide, round shield. The name Hypaspist means nothing else than “shield bearer” or “shield covered”, which perfectly reflects the character of this unit. Their bodies are protected by a rather simple armor and high, shiny helmet. Recruiting a Hypaspist squad will certainly be more expensive than hiring a group of simple Psiloi, but they are well worth the price 💪 During your future clashes with neighbor city-states, you will surely find out how powerful and useful they can be. Hypaspists can prove to be a great backbone of your army – they maintain the perfect balance between price and effectiveness.

Further graphic improvements

We are very satisfied with our progress in this regard. Builders of Greece looks better and better every single week! Creating new materials presenting the game is now faster, easier, and more fun than ever before, so you can expect some brand-new, awesome content very, very soon! Our graphic designers and dev team are constantly working on fixing any imperfections and getting rid of unwanted glitches. Luckily, there aren’t many of them left! We also focus on optimizing visual effects and possible improvements to the color palette and shadows. You can see the effects of our work on the GIF above! Looks pretty neat, doesn’t it? 🤩

Feast your eyes with a great Odeon!

It’s true – building an Odeon may be a bit expensive… however, once it finds its place among the streets of your City, you will not regret your decision! Just look at those tall walls, great columns, sculptures, and shiny red roofs! The Odeon is one of the places that every inhabitant of Ancient Greece would like to visit. The residents of your Polis (especially those wealthier) will appreciate the opportunity to see the astonishing and touching performances taking place there with their own eyes 👀

In addition to providing entertainment, the Odeon’s mission is to meet the cultural needs of your subjects. The ancient Greeks had great respect for art and culture. If you care about the constant influx of new residents and the satisfaction of those who already live in your city, do not forget about this amazing colossus!
