Hello there! The following series is a kind of journal of our adventure with game development. If you want to take part in it and find out what exactly we do to move our titles towards their premiers, check back regularly! Cheers!
GIMLE: THE BROKEN PROPHECY
It’s time for the Summary of Progress no. #! As always, we have a lot of interesting information, graphics, and news for you, so get comfy and let us begin, alright? Perfect! In the last part of Summary of Progress, we showed you a few completely new graphic assets, such as character animations, and today we want to continue this trend. Our games are becoming more and more alive, thanks to which we can slowly (but surely!) start to imagine what their final form will look like… For now, however, it’s a thing of the future. Let’s get back to the present times and check out all the novelties from the last two weeks! Here we go!
Even more changes to core mechanics and main features
Our quest to refine, improve, and enhance the main mechanics of the game continues. It is quite a long and demanding quest, but the reward… oh boy, it is worth the effort We will definitely come back to this topic in the next parts of this series – today, suffice it to say, we still have our hands full and work hard on numerous important features. But there is more! You are about to find out that these are not the only changes that affected the amazing world of Gimle…
The building blocks of the world of Gimle
Every world, whether virtual or real, consists of so-called building blocks Our artists have recently been creating such blocks and trying to give them a realistic, interesting, and deep look. Believe us – this is a job that requires great attention to detail, creativity, and observation skills. Every little element, every addition is of great importance and makes up the bigger, complete whole. Mentioned blocks will appear almost everywhere you decide to go on a journey through the world of Gimle, regardless of whether you are fighting, talking to NPCs, or traveling through winding roads. We encourage you to take a moment to appreciate their practical and often… well, raw beauty!
Building blocks consist of all kinds of materials and textures. Mountain peaks? No problem – we prepared jagged rocks. A journey through the forest? Sure – here goes the undergrowth. Cobbled street in the city? We got it! A wooden hut and its squeaky floors? Sure! Thanks to such a huge variety of materials, each location, building, or element of the environment will be quite unique and authentic.
Builders of Greece
We often mention that as ruler of a great Greek city, you will have a huge range of different buildings at your disposal. And it is true! However, in order for these buildings to fulfill their functions, appropriate employees must first be assigned to them Today we will show you the designs of the next two inhabitants of your Polis, who are engaged in hard, honest work. In addition, we have also prepared animations showing what the work of their next-door neighbors will look like. Let’s see how they are doing!
Citizens at work
We know you liked the vase painter we presented to you two weeks ago. That’s why we’re going with the flow! Here come two more employees who perform their daily duties with great commitment and diligence. The first of them is a Tailor. His task is to dress his fellow citizens in various types of tunics, robes, and outfits Depending on the client’s requirements and social status, he can prepare simple, cheap variants or rich garments full of ornaments and stunning colors.
There is no life without water – this principle has not changed for tens of thousands of years And the Water pump is a great way to get it! Your subject, who fills the buckets with this life-giving fluid, also knows this very well. Just look at him go!
Blacksmith and Thetes
As we wrote in the first part of our other series – “Ruler’s Manual“, Thetes are the lowest class of society which is made up of a wide variety of members, mainly poor peasants, small craftsmen, and landless hired workers. The Thetes were made up of citizens with property producing less than 200 medimnos* of grain a year. They live in rather simple, small houses without any comforts or rich furnishings. Their outfit is also quite simple – it consists of a brown tunic and… that’s it! And this is what we call being practical!
the devil is in the details
We believe this saying also applies to the game development industry. That is why we are doing our best to take good care of details, even the smallest things, and every single piece of the environment in our titles. And here’s the proof! Majestic, impressive buildings delight passers-by with their colonnades, huge sizes, and classic beauty – that’s for sure. Their facades are also often decorated with amazing bas-reliefs, mosaics, or paintings that only emphasize their stunning appearance. Such works of art often show things that are the most important elements of ancient Greek culture…
The above-mentioned facades are the perfect place to immortalize great heroes, map the most important war events, and worship the mysterious gods. Therefore, our graphic designers played the role of sculptors and created an amazing scene depicting the colorful and interesting life of your subjects. Who knows… if you prove to be a good ruler, perhaps they will honor you in a similar way?
