Summary of Progress #31

Be sure to check out our Social Media

Hello there! The following series is a kind of journal of our adventure with game development. If you want to take part in it and find out what exactly we do to move our titles towards their premiers, check back regularly! Cheers!

WE ARE HAPPY TO SEE YOU AGAIN!

It’s Friday… and you know what that means, don’t you? That’s right, it’s time for the Summary of Progress no. 3⃣1⃣! Looks like you owe me an apology, everyone. Lately, we’ve taken a slight step back in our gamedev series… however, this doesn’t indicate a slowdown in our overall work. In fact, it’s quite the opposite! We’ve had a lot of work to do over the past few weeks with the launch of the Builders of Greece: Prologue Playtest, and it’s this exceptionally important event that we want to tell you all about today. But before that – according to tradition – we’ll start with a summary of the news from the Gimle project.

Gimle - step by step to the final goal

As mentioned above, a significant portion of our resources has been dedicated to the development of Builders of Greece in recent times. Our work on the development of the Gimle project is still ongoing and moving forward, but at its own, steady pace. If you follow the series, you know that many of the main mechanics and systems in the game are currently being improved and reworked. Truth to be told, this is quite a time-consuming and painstaking task, hence the lack of groundbreaking news and exciting events… for now 🤓

Once concrete information is at hand, we will promptly notify you through our Discord server, Social Media platforms, and this blog – so stay tuned, aight?

Builders of Greece

All our activities revolve around Prologue Playtest – we improve it, fix it, patch it and add new functionality as often and as quickly as we can. We couldn’t do it without your help and the incredibly valuable feedback you provide us with, so know that we are very, very grateful, guys! 🙏

If you want to play the Playtest version of the game and join our testers, it’s still possible! All you have to do is visit the Builders of Greece Steam page. Ok, with that behind us, let’s delve into the Playtest itself, shall we?

The Playtest is ON 😍

We know, that you know, but there may be people among us who encounter our devblog or a term such as Playtest for the first time, so let’s start with the basics. What is this “Playtest” thing, how is it different from the Demo, and what can you expect from it?

While the Demo version primarily served as an extensive tutorial to explain the fundamental mechanics of the game, the Prologue is on a whole different level, offering more content and depth. New buildings, cool features, random events, or more management, and decision-making elements are just to begin with!

Moreover, the Prologue (and its Playtest) is based on a scenario similar to those you will encounter in the full game 📜 so you will have a taste of what challenges Builders of Greece will present in the future. Of course, this is still just a substitute for the huge adventure that awaits us after the game’s release (which will be much more elaborate and complex), but we’re sure you get the idea 🤓

How does all of this translate into more practical terms? Your adventure will begin on the beautiful sunny and… empty coast 🤓 The decision of where to construct the Agora, which serves as the vibrant core of your future city, rests in your hands. Similarly, the arrangement of roads, residential areas, as well as the placement of mines and workshops, will be determined by your choices. Can you create efficient communication and production chains? Will your hunters and fishermen provide the rest of society with a proper amount of food? 🍖 Will every citizen have a job and a roof over their head? Once again – it all depends on you, the ruler!

It’s important to understand that governing a prosperous city is a truly challenging task. At any given time, ominous red sails might emerge on the horizon, which certainly don’t signify anything good! One of your tasks will be to raise an army to defend your Polis. In addition, you can expect other surprises in the form of Random Events. The choice of whether to wait out the storm in the harbor or allow the ships to venture into the rough sea is solely yours to make. What will you do with the treasure found in the ruins? How will you respond to refugees asking for shelter?

If you want to share your thoughts and opinions on the graphics novelties, be sure to visit our ➡️ Discord server or 💭 Steam Discussions. We always love to hear your feedback, so please don’t hesitate to speak up!

Behold... the Theater

Once you manage to deal with the difficulties, you can continue your mission. Soon, many new buildings will appear on the streets of your city, among them a true gem that will be the crowning achievement of the Prologue adventure 👑

The Theater is the first so-called Great Building that you will be able to construct. To do this, you will need a lot of resources. The best way to get them is to build a quarry or trade with overseas realms – oh, did we mention that your harbor will be frequently visited by trading ships? Be sure to familiarize yourself with the trade panel, as it allows you to replenish missing goods or sell surpluses. Back on the topic – once you build the Theater, you can consider yourself… a winner. Congratulations, emperor!

Now you can continue your gameplay and share your feedback. We cannot stress enough how important your reports, ideas and opinions are, everyone, so please feel free to share your thoughts! Thanks to your feedback, we already implemented a few Hotfixes that made the game smoother and devoid of several obtrusive issues. Much appreciate 🙏

Let’s remember that the actual Prologue and the full version of the game are getting closer to their releases every single day. With a positive outlook on the future and a strong belief in our incredible community, we hold the conviction that no challenge is too great or difficult! 😁 Fingers crossed.

Thank you, everyone, for your continued support and see you soon in the next Summary of Progress entry!
